How to Apply Mascara
Applying mascara should be the final product you apply; therefore, apply your liner and eyeshadow first.
Step 1: Curl Your Lashes
Curl Your Lashes in Step One
Gently press the lash curler closed on your lashes while holding it at the root of your lashes. Repeat a third time after letting go and moving the curler up your lashes. This must be done before applying mascara to prevent lash loss due to the curler clinging to your lashes.
Step 2: Use primer for lashes.
Eyelash primer ensures that your mascara lasts longer.
Step 3: Coat Your Upper Lash with Mascara
Gently remove the extra mascara at the top of the wand by pulling it out of the tube. Avoid clumping and drying in the tube by not pumping the wand up and down. Wiggle the wand back, beginning at the root of your top lashes.
Step 2: Apply Eyelash Primer
Eyelash primer gives your mascara staying power.
Step 3: Apply Mascara to Your Upper Lashes
Pull the wand out of the tube and gently wipe off the excess mascara at the top. Don’t pump the wand up and down in the tube, as that causes clumping and drying. Starting at the base of your upper lashes, wiggle the wand back and forth as you swipe upward to ensure your lashes are completely coated.
Step 4: Apply Mascara to Your Bottom Lashes
Approach your lower eyelashes with care, as mascara easily clumps and flakes when it’s applied to these delicate lashes. Hold your mascara wand at an angle and apply just the tip to the roots of your bottom lashes, wiggling the wand gently. For more control, use a small lip brush to paint the lower lashes individually.
Final step: Dust with Translucent Powder & Repeat Application
While dusting your lashes with a translucent powder in between coats of mascara isn’t necessary, some pros like to do this as it adds thickness to lashes and provides additional staying power for mascara. If you choose to do this step, be sure to apply another coat of mascara afterwards to avoid powder-covered eyelashes.
